SAN FRANCISCO (NYTIMES) - From her flower stand on Market Street, Patricia Lee saw the glint of a large blade and then feathers from a winter jacket fly through the air. An older woman buckled to her knees.
In broad daylight, on one of the busiest streets in San Francisco, two unsuspecting Asian women, one of them 84, had just been attacked by a man with a large military-style knife, officials and witnesses said. He walked right next to me - I could have been the one who got stabbed, said Lee, who witnessed the attack Tuesday afternoon. Police arrested Patrick Thompson, 54, who they say carried out the attack, although the motive remained unknown.

Prosecutors have refiled felony assault charges against Jamaica Hampton, the man who was shot by San Francisco police officers in 2019 just after, officials said, he attacked a police officer with a bottle.
The complaint comes two weeks after a San Francisco judge dismissed a case against Hampton citing insufficient evidence.
“We presented evidence of identification, including video evidence, but the judge ruled it was insufficient,” said Rachel Marshall, a spokesperson for the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.

A leading advocate for San Francisco’s crime victims is stepping down from her post at the District Attorney’s Office next month, the DA’s office announced Tuesday.
Dr. Gena Castro Rodriguez was hailed by District Attorney Chesa Boudin as a pioneering force for victim advocacy programs in San Francisco, and whose work was modeled throughout the state.
