The colorful statue is now missing one of its horns. San Francisco police say they are investigating the vandalism, which happened Sunday night, close to midnight. They ask that anyone with any information about this incident to contact the SFPD at 415.575.4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD. You may remain anonymous.

Among the reforms, Breed said officers would no longer respond to calls that do not involve a threat to public safety. Instead, police would be replaced by trained, unarmed professionals to limit unnecessary confrontation between the police department and the community. The non-criminal calls include neighbor disputes, reports on homeless people and school discipline interventions, among other activities. The city also said at the time that it would strengthen police accountability policies, ban the use of military-grade weapons and divert funding to address disparities in the Black community. In July, Breed also announced a $120 million budget cut to police and sheriff s departments over the next two years. In addition, San Francisco asked police and fire fighter unions to delay raises for two years in order to save an additional $270 million.

San Francisco s Chinatown celebrates Lunar New Year while calling for unity, allyship after recent attacks on Asian Americans

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) Friday is the beginning of Lunar New Year, traditionally a time for festivities. While the pandemic has put a damper on many celebrations, San Francisco s Chinatown has found a way to mark the Year of the Ox while sending a strong message about a recent wave of attacks on Asian Americans. Usually, the opening of a playground wouldn t warrant such a grand celebration but the Willy Woo Woo Wong Playground is a $14.5 million dollar, nearly 10-year long project which is symbolic of the challenges this neighborhood has endured in the past year. Hopefully it s more of a sign that Chinatown that has been battered by this pandemic is coming back. It s going to attract more people to work play eat in Chinatown, said Allan Low with the city s Recreation and Park Commission.
