In a rare study published this week, Andrea Jani, a researcher with the University of Hawai i at Mānoa, determined the skin microbiome of an endangered frog was altered when the frogs were infected by a specific fungus, and it didn t recover to its initial state even when the frog was cured of the infection.

He was a member of the board of directors that ran the family-owned newspaper in the years before it was sold to the Hearst Corp., its current owner, but he was better known for directing The Chronicle’s fledgling venture into movie production and cable television. His movies, among them “The Malibu Bikini Shop,” were full of fun and high spirits, much as he was.
