The deceased was identified by police as 54-year-old Rajendra Mohammed, of Macaulay Trace.
A police report said that at around 6.45 p.m. a motorist driving a Nissan B14 was proceeding north along the Solomon Hochoy Highway when he collided with Mohammed, who was crossing the north-bound lane.
Police officers of the Debe Highway Patrol Unit, as well as Couva police responded.
A district medical officer pronounced Mohammed dead at the scene.
The body was removed to the mortuary of the San Fernando General Hospital for an autopsy this week.

Weighing in 3.2 kilogrammes, James gave birth to a baby girl she named Julianna.
The baby was delivered by Dr Corridon and Dr Sobers at the Sangre Grande Hospital.
Arti Deokaran gave birth at the San Fernando hospital to the second baby on Christmas Day at 12.58 a.m.
Weighing 3.16 kilogrammes, Deokaran named her daughter Arya Dabideen.
The baby was delivered by Dr Petollokhman.
Sangre Grande Hospital also recorded the third birth on Christmas Day at 1.02 a.m. when Meenadaye Sookdeo delivered a baby boy.
The infant weighed 2.53 kilogrammes.

FROM Sunday to Monday, the Ministry of Health s tally of covid19 tests done since March increased by 30,892 tests.
But Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Roshan Parasram on Tuesday told Newsday nothing was amiss with the data.
On Sunday at 4pm, the ministry’s covid19 update indicated 39,260 total persons tested to date, but by Monday evening this figure had leapt to 70,152 tests.
The Monday figures also showed 12 more individuals testing positive, for a total since March of 7,012 people. The death toll was 125 people, indicating two more deaths by Monday, plus 6,471 patients recovered and 416 active cases.

A 19-YEAR-OLD woman was expected to appear before a San Fernando magistrate virtually on Monday charged with manslaughter.
A police press release stated that Nanyamka Mama Worrell was charged on Friday on the advice of Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard, SC.
Police said that on December 13, at Hope Street in Tarodale, Ste Madeleine, Stephon Ramnarine, 26, was liming with friends not too far from his Hill Crest Extension home.
The release said that 4 pm and 5 pm, an argument broke out and Ramnarine was stabbed on his left shoulder with a knife by a woman whom he knew.
