Phelan Town Hall to address community safety, illegal marijuana grows

Victorville Daily Press A town hall will be held next month in Phelan to allow residents to question elected representatives on “community safety” with a focus on illegal marijuana cultivation. The Phelan Piñon Hills Community Services District is scheduled to host the event at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 10, at Phelan Community Park. U.S. Rep. Jay Obernolte, San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon, Undersheriff Shannon Dicus, District Attorney Jason Anderson, State Sen. Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh,  Assemblyman Thurston “Smitty” Smith and Assemblyman Tom Lackey are all set to attend. San Bernardino County Supervisor Paul Cook has also been invited, the community services district said.

Applicants must meet certain qualifications and a combination of full-time law enforcement experience and education. The position will be vacated by Sheriff John McMahon on July 16. He has led the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department since 2012 and announced his retirement on June 18. “For the last 36 years I’ve been blessed to work with some of the most dedicated and hard-working law enforcement professionals,” McMahon said in a video. “The 8 ½ years serving as your sheriff has been an honor and a privilege, a responsibility that I have taken very seriously.”

Victorville man accused of pimping underage girl; 81 arrests in San Bernardino County related to human trafficking in 2021 Victorville Daily Press A Victorville man has been accused of sexually exploiting two women, including a 17-year-old girl, after he was arrested earlier this month for outstanding warrants. Trayvon Ashley, 23, faces possible charges of human trafficking of a minor, pandering a minor older than 16 and pimping a minor older than 16. The California Penal Code defines pandering as influencing someone to become or remain a prostitute. Ashley is scheduled for a hearing Monday in Victorville Superior Court. Members from the San Bernardino County Human Trafficking Task Force were called by detectives at the Victorville Sheriff’s Station after Ashley was arrested for warrants including one for no bail out of Texas  on June 6, authorities said.
