San Mateo County investigators looking for additional victims in series of violent rapes

HALF MOON BAY, Calif. - A San Mateo County man suspected of raping multiple girls over the course of several years was arrested Thursday after one of the victims came forward to identify him, according to sheriff s officials.
Deputies are still investigating the crimes, which date from between 2012 and 2017 and involved the alleged rape of at least four girls, sheriff s officials announced.
Investigators allege that 30-year-old Kaylan Freeman found the girls on social media sites or dating apps and met them at various locations throughout the county.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA The Santa Clara County Public Health Department reported 409 additional coronavirus cases Friday.
The latest report brings the countywide case count to 96,340.
The county reported 23 additional coronavirus-related fatalities Friday, bringing its COVID-19 death toll to 1,181.

There were 585 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in the county as of Friday of which 142 were being treated in intensive care units.

San Mateo County filed a lawsuit against Pacifica Beach Yoga for violating public health orders, the toughest action the county has taken against businesses breaking safety rules in the pandemic.
The county alleged in the lawsuit that owner Tommy Antoon has flagrantly refused to abide by various health orders for months, and has offered indoor, “mask-free” yoga classes, sometimes up to three times a day. All indoor gyms, fitness centers and yoga studios must close in areas covered by the state’s current stay-at-home orders, imposed after COVID-19 cases threatened to swamp state hospitals.
Scott Peterson – the man convicted of murdering his wife and unborn child in California in 2002 – appeared in court for a hearing Thursday as he prepares for his new trial.
