Questionable actions
Bizarre from the start, the Feb. 23 Port San Luis Harbor Commission meeting provided ripe fodder for a
SNL spoof. It was complete with a white elitist badge-toting, take-no-prisoners sheriff from Texas and a gang of three schoolyard bullies.
The night s debacle was replete with misogyny on raw display, dismissal of a respected progressive Jewish human rights advocate, and coddling of a business owner.
Then came the truly despicable part. Said bullies set about to defame a well respected, long-standing community leader a man who is an honest business owner and public servant of widely known integrity. For what reason? Unclear. Degree of seriousness? Disputable, but sounded like some sort of one-off happening that could probably be cleared up in an instance without ego-driven personalities running amuck.

Right now, county officials estimate there is upwards of $25 million in rent debt in San Luis Obispo County.
California recently passed the California Rental Assistance Program which will give San Luis Obispo County more than $17 million in rent relief to offset the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
County Supervisor Bruce Gibson said, â[The] money [is] going back to tenants, so they can stay up on their rent, so they can stay in their housing and money also going back to landlords because the ripple effect there is they face foreclosure.â
Local attorney and activist Tarren Collins had just recently sworn off volunteer work to focus more on her own personal life in 2014 when she came across recently installed fences and no trespassing signs blocking a portion of her favorite hike at Ontario Ridge. A steep, straight slope above Cave Landing connects the Shell Beach Bluff Trail with the ridge, and it traverses land privately owned by Rob and Judy McCarthy, who have been embroiled in a battle to build a home on the property for around a decade. click to enlarge Screenshot From Coastal Commission Staff Report

VISION If built, the Dana Reserve project (rendered) would bring more than 1,200 new housing units to Nipomo. On Jan. 26, the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors voted to begin formally processing the application for Dana Reserve a major project proposing 1,270 units of single-family and multi-family housing, a commercial center, and 74 acres of parks and open space. With the vote, SLO County entered into a memorandum of understanding with the developer, NKT Commercial s Nick Tompkins, that sets the parameters for the project s review, and also amended the county general plan in South County to better align it with the project.
There likely won t be any concerts at the Santa Maria Raceway this year. At a meeting on Jan. 26, the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors rescinded a temporary commercial outdoor entertainment license it awarded to the Santa Maria Raceway, aka Stadium 805, just a few months earlier. The permit would have allowed the venue to host six one-day concerts with up to 3,500 attendees in 2021, and it was largely considered a win for Stadium 805 in its battle over noise and traffic with the residents of a neighboring housing development. click to enlarge File Photo Courtesy Of Santa Maria Raceway
