San Luis Obispo County COVID-19 cases now 20,704; 256 deaths
SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. - San Luis Obispo County reported 33 new coronavirus cases on Thursday. There have now been 20,704 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in San Luis Obispo County, including 256 deaths.
The newest numbers are being released every weekday on ReadySLO.org.
216 people are recovering at home and 7 people are currently hospitalized, 1 of whom is in the ICU. 20,221 people are considered recovered.
2,384 of these total cases are inmates at the California Men s Colony.

Under Gov. Gavin Newsom s latest reopening plan, K-12 schools are expected to fully reopen for in-person learning this fall.
San Luis Obispo County Superintendent of Schools Dr. James Brescia says he is in frequent communication with all of the school districts and the San Luis Obispo County Public Health Department to discuss what a full reopening might look like.
The return to in-person classes full-time is something Lucia Mar parent Shannon Galvin says she is cautiously optimistic about. They re throwing out the carrot of: Oh, we ll reopen in fall. Okay, well you said that last fall too, so it s hard to get excited about it now when you ve lost so much time and there s still no guarantee you re going to actually open, Galvin explained.
SLO County residents urged to book second COVID vaccine appointments
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The San Luis Obispo County Public Health Department is asking people to proactively schedule their second COVID-19 vaccine appointment.
The county was previously notifying people when they should book their second dose.
As of Friday, 62,000 people had received a first dose at one of the county s clinics and about 24,000 still needed their second.
You can book a second dose appointment up to one week in advance.
Timeslots open every Wednesday morning by 9 a.m.

–San Luis Obispo County reported 59 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend; 22 on Monday, 17 on Sunday, and 20 on Saturday. Active cases as of Monday afternoon were at 213, down considerably since January when active cases peaked at over 3,000.
The total number of people who have tested positive for COVID-19 since March is now 20,606 in SLO County. The county reports 20,106 people have recovered from the virus.
The San Luis Obispo County Public Health Department also reported zero new deaths. The health department attributes a total of 256 deaths to COVID-19.
