New search as prime suspect named in Kristin Smart disappearance

The Associated Press ARROYO GRANDE Paul Flores was named for the first time this week as the “prime suspect” in the 25-year mystery of the disappearance of Stockton college student Kristin Smart, as the latest of many searches ended Tuesday with no comment from authorities on whether it yielded any results. Flores, 43, the last person seen with Smart in May 1996 as he reportedly walked her back to her dorm room following a party has long been called a “person of interest” in the case. On Monday, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release announcing the new search that Flores “remains the prime suspect” in Smart’s disappearance, the San Luis Obispo Tribune reported.

The interview comes on the heels of search warrants being served at Ruben Flores home in Arroyo Grande on March 15 and 16. Ruben, Paul s father, and Susan have lived in separate homes in the Arroyo Grande area for decades.

Atascadero woman slapped with more than 10 years in prison for embezzlement March 17, 2021 By JOSH FRIEDMAN An Atascadero woman who embezzled nearly $900,000 from a Creston construction company was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years and four months in state prison. Over a period of more than three years, Joy Noel Wilde, 43, stole $877,123 from her former employer, Greg Wiemann Construction, according to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office. Wilde’s scheme involved passing 64 fraudulent checks and attempting to pass three others. Wilde was working as a bookkeeper and office manager for the construction company during the time the theft occurred. An investigation into Wilde’s activities began on July 9, 2019, when Gregg Wiemann told the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office that his bookkeeper embezzled more than $47,000. Wilde reportedly took a check made out to a vendor for the construction company, altered the check and then deposited it in her personal
