Cal Poly AEPi Vandalized With Anti-Semitic Graffiti

The Alpha Epsilon Pi (AEPi) house at California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo was vandalized with anti-Semitic graffiti on January 27.
The San Luis Obispo Tribune reported that the graffiti consisted of multiple swastikas and anti-Semitic statements on and in front of the house. Police are investigating the matter as a hate crime.
The AEPi chapter wrote in a February 7 Instagram post, “This was targeted at us, as the Jewish fraternity, and we would like the world to know we do not tolerate or condone this behavior. Our chapter and the entire San Luis Obispo Jewish community stand together proudly against those who are uneducated and who encourage hateful acts.”

However, breaking into the Capitol and fomenting damage and destruction is not exercise of speech or assembly. Our freedoms are not a license to break the very laws that make these freedoms possible.

This new year, perhaps we should all resolve to model the spirit of SLO, the acronym that embodies San Luis Obispo, perhaps the easiest place in California to catch your breath and get a little rest.
SLO has been central to my own coping strategy during this miserable COVID-19 year. Whenever work pressures or distance learning horrors or home confinement makes our family feel like we’re going insane, the five of us take our 2006 Toyota Scion three hours north from Los Angeles, to some empty and beautiful spot in that empty and beautiful county. So far, we’ve taken five short SLO breaks of three or four days each.
