You know, there’s a point in
A Quiet Place Part II – the much-delayed follow-up to John Krasinski s smash-hit horror where humans must stay silent or be eaten alive by aliens with excellent hearing – at which I scribbled “A franchise is coming!!!” in my notebook and underlined it three times. Without giving too much away, someone we had come to like was suddenly snatched from view by an alien. Now, Krasinski is clearly not sentimental when it comes to killing off characters. Remember the horrifying scene in which little boy Beau is shredded to pieces in film one? But I can’t quite believe this is the end of… let’s call him John. And, at any rate, there’s plenty of evidence that more films are to come.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It might be the eighth instalment in James Wan’s horror franchise but it’s only the third outing for Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as the Warrens, the OG paranormal investigators whose case files have provided much of the inspiration for the demonic stories being told. It’s good to have them back in action, for as much as these sinister tales have relied on various claims of paranormal activity, from haunted houses and dolls to demon nuns, the ghost-hunting duo prove once again why they are very much the series’ beating heart.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is set to feature demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren in a way that audiences have never seen. While their previous movies have been firmly in the haunted house subgenre, their upcoming adventure will feature them investigating a case and uncovering truths about a demon possession that turns deadly. It will be interesting to see them out and about instead of just looking in attics and basements â but as showcased in the newly released clip there is just as much danger in the great outdoors as there is in ghost-filled homes.
