New dates announced for WBSC Men s Softball World Cup 2022 05/13/21
PULLY, Switzerland; 12 May 2021 The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), in conjunction with Softball New Zealand and the Local Organising Committee, today announced new dates for the WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup 2022. The premier international men’s softball event will now take place from 26 November to 4 December in Auckland, New Zealand.
Originally set to take place in February 2021, the tournament was previously delayed to 2022 as a result of COVID-19 pandemic safety precautions and international travel restrictions.
Softball New Zealand CEO Tony Giles says the new dates provide certainty in what has been a very difficult 12 months.
Pizzolini to lead Italian softball team at Tokyo 2020 after head coach death Sunday, 7 March 2021
Federico Pizzolini has been named as the new head coach of the Italian women’s softball team, following the death of Enrico Obletter last month.
Obletter passed away at the age of 61 after contracting COVID-19.
The Australian had been head coach of Italy s women s softball team since 2007, and was due to lead the side at this year s Olympics.
Obletter led Italy to the European title in 2019, and the Azzurri then won all six matches at the Europe-Africa qualifier to secure a place at Toyko 2020.
Obletter had previously served as Italy s pitching coach at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, where Italy placed fifth.
