Bengaluru: Adding to the crisis of spiralling number of Coronavirus cases in Karnataka, 24 Covid-19 patients died due to interruption of medical oxygen supply at the Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) in Chamarajanagar district on Monday.
The Karnataka government has ordered a probe that will be headed by IAS officer Shivayogi Kalasad and asked for a report in three days.
Dr DM Sanjeev, Director of CIMS, told the media that due to shortage of oxygen between 12 am and 2 am, 24 patients who were on ventilators and needed high flow oxygen died.
âOut of the 24 persons who have died, 18 were suffering from comorbidities and had long-standing problems. Right now, we require 350 cylinders a day, a daily spike of 35 to 40 cylinders, and our vendors are not able to match the increase in demand. Chamarajnagara : , May 4 (IANS) Outrightly rejecting that 24 patients died due to interruption in oxygen supply at the Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) in Chamarajanagar district in the wee hours of Monday, Karnataka Health Minister K. Sudhkar said that only three persons died at CIMS between 12 am to 3 am on Monday due to oxygen shortage, and not 24 as the media is reporting.
After inspecting the CIMS hospital premises, Sudhakar, accompanied by district in-charge minister S. Suresh Kumar, said that the hospital has reported as many 24 deaths in the last 24 hours, and these deaths have occurred at different time gaps, so they cannot be clubbed with the three deaths caused by the fluctuating supply of oxygen.

In a tragic news, as many as 23 COVID-19 patients died in Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) in Karnataka s Chamarajanagar district on Monday due to an interruption in the supply of medical oxygen.
CIMS Director DM Sanjeev told reporters that due to a shortage of oxygen, 23 patients who were on ventilator support and needed a high flow of oxygen have died.
