The Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology will be conducting online examinations only during the period January 18 to 29. Students have been advised to pay attention to their current examinations timetable and to log on at the designated times to complete these exams. All exams which were set to be conducted face to face have been postponed. (BGIS)

The Barbados Fire Service (BFS) is seeking to roll out a suite of new training initiatives to enhance the skills set of officers, and position the organisation to respond to new and emerging challenges.
Chief Fire Officer, Errol Maynard, disclosed some of those plans as he addressed the closing ceremony of the Barbados Fire Academy Auxiliary Fire Officers’ Recruit Course at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology.
“As we evolve as a department, as the environment changes, your training will be upgraded to meet the needs of the industry, the environment, and the demands of the society,” he told recruits.

A modern fire and rescue service is to emerge from a complete overhaul of the law governing the Barbados Fire Service, Minister of Home Affairs Wilfred Abrahams said on Wednesday.
In remarks during the passing out parade of nearly two-dozen firefighter recruits at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology, Abrahams said there has been no large-scale revision of the Fire Service Act since 1961 to modernize it and bring it in line with the current practices in the field.
The proposed overhaul is intended to allow the Barbados Fire Service to evolve into a comprehensive fire management and rescue operation which can deliver a modern fire and rescue service that responds to the demands of the 21st Century, he said.

The WorldSkills Barbados 2020 Closing/Awards Ceremony took place last Tuesday, December 1st, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre (LESC). The finals of the WSB 2020 Competition took place November 19 – 22.
Twenty-two students representing four local training institutions competed in six skill areas: Car Painting, Cooking, Fashion Technology, Graphic Design Technology, Hairdressing and Restaurant Service.
