The world’s first bitcoin chess tournament, the FTX Crypto Cup, is being held from May 23.

The tournament is the final major in this season’s $1.5million Meltwater Champions Chess Tour, the richest and most prestigious online chess event in history.
World Champion Magnus Carlsen will take centre stage as the current tour leader, but will face stiff competition in a field of 16 star names.

New in Chess Classic, Day 4 - Quarterfinal
16 players have started in the New in Chess Classic Online tournament, and the best eight of the preliminaries round now face each other in knockout matches. They play two four-game matches over two days, and if the score after these two matches is 2:2, two blitz games and, if necessary, an Armageddon game will force a decision.

World Champion Magnus Carlsen dominated the preliminaries: he didn t lose a single game and finished clear first with a score of 10.5/15. But the quarterfinal against Teimour Radjabov went less smoothly. Carlsen remained undefeated, but was unable to put Radjabov, who played in his usual solid and confident style, under any serious pressure in the four games of the first match and had to settle for four draws in a row.

Wesley So is now officially a US citizen after a ceremony
last Friday in Minneapolis/Saint Paul. The reigning US Chess Champion and
Meltwater Champions Chess Tour leader called it, “literally a dream come true,”
and added, “I am now a part of the American Dream”. Wesley So, who was born in
the Philippines but has lived in the US since 2012, also welcomed the impending
transfer of Levon Aronian to the US, noting “having Levon around will push us
all to be stronger and fight harder!”
