Island Fantasy Passes | Standardbred Canada

Winbak Farm has regretfully announced the passing of Island Fantasy. Island Fantasy (p, 2, 1:52; 3, 1:50.1 [$1,371,525]) passed away at the age of 25 on May 28th. He succumbed to complications from colic. He had been standing at Winbak Farm of Maryland. “Island Fantasy was a striking individual,” said Garrett Bell, Winbak Farm General Manager. “He had the looks, pedigree and racing career that made him the complete package as a sire.” Island Fantasy won 15 races. His awards included the Harness Tracks of America (HTA) Nova Award for Two-Year-Old Pacing Colts, O Brien Award for Two-Year-Old Pacing Colts and USHWA Dan Patch Award for Two-Year-Old Pacing Colts. At two and three, Island Fantasy traveled North America and won stakes across the continent.

Scott Young s COSA Fantasy Stable | Standardbred Canada

With the May 21st deadline getting closer, to enter the 2nd annual COSA Fantasy Stable Contest, driver Scott Young delivered his thoughts on the team he’ll select for the 2021 COSA contest. The 2020 William Wellwood winning driver, who was James MacDonald’s top choice for Group C, Young highlighted the three-year-old pacing filly Scarlett Hanover whom he selected for Group N, and predicted she will have another astounding season. “Scarlett Hanover is not only an OSS caliber filly, she has shown she can compete at a Grand Circuit level as well. She won the Battle Of The Belles last year fairly early in the season and was still around to compete in the Breeders Crown at the end of the year. She has the potential to have another really great stakes season.”

Standardbred Canada announced the winners of 2020 O’Brien Awards, which honour Canada’s best in harness racing over the past season, during a Virtual Gala videostreamed on standardbredcanada.ca on Sunday, January 31. Held virtually due to the provincial lockdown in Ontario, this year marked the 32nd edition of the O’Brien Awards, named in honour of the late Joe O’Brien, an outstanding horseman and member of the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame. Richard Moreau added a record eighth O’Brien trophy to his mantle in the Trainer of the Year Category after a season which saw him top the earnings and win charts for Canadian trainers. Based in Puslinch, Ont., Moreau is one of the country’s busiest trainers, sending postward 1,604 starters that made 237 trips to the winner’s circle and earned more than $3.6 million in purses.
