The Vermont Community Foundation has given a $10,000 grant to two programs intended to help victims of domestic violence escape their situations and become self-sufficient.
Voices Against Violence and Growing Money are programs of the Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity (CVOEO) focused on survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in Franklin and Grand Isle counties.
Growing Money helps low-income Vermonters gain the skills needed for day-to-day financial management. We know that one of the reasons that survivors stay in abusive relationships is because they fear they will not be able to support themselves, Kris Lukens, director of Voices Against Violence, said in a news release. Learning financial skills is crucial for survivors to become self-sufficient and economically secure.
