OBSERVER Photo by Anthony Dolce A 62-year-old Sherman woman has been identified as the person struck and killed by a train Thursday in the village of Westfield. An investigation into the accident remains ongoing, the Westfield Police Department said in a news release. County 911 dispatch had received word around 3:15 p.m. of a person struck, which sparked a search in the area of the tracks that included North Gale Street and around English and Franklin streets. A body was discovered under the train about 15 minutes after the first call was received, and the coroner was eventually summoned.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff s Office is currently investigating a deadly fire that happened early Saturday morning in the Town of Ripley. Deputies say multiple fire crews were called to a house fire Saturday just after 5:30 a.m., at 9087 Old Route 20. The Ripley Fire Department responded to the scene along with fire crews from Westfield, Sherman, Fuller Hose (northeast Pennsylvania) and Chautauqua County Emergency Services.
