City Breaks Ground on New Skatepark
City officials, funders, and community members broke ground on the future
skatepark in Jamestown Thursday. The poured concrete structure will be located between the
Chadakoin River and
Greater Jamestown Riverwalk at 117 Fairmount Avenue. Mayor
Eddie Sundquist said not every community has been able to break ground on a project like this in a middle of a pandemic,
“So the fact that we’re still working on behalf of our kids, our youth, here in the City of Jamestown to make sure we have a space where they can be the best they can be is so incredibly important.”

This fall the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Academy awarded recruit Jacob Dietzel the Dan Feather Memorial Scholarship worth $1,000.
Dietzel is attending the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Academy at Jamestown Community College. He is from Jamestown and graduated from both Jamestown Community College and the State University of New York at Fredonia, and also serves in the United States Marine Corps Reserve.
Dietzel was accepted into the Sheriff’s Academy in August 2020.
The Dan Feather Memorial Scholarship was created by Verna Feather, the widow of Dan Feather, an 18-year veteran of the Jamestown Police Department. The recipient must be a Chautauqua County resident who is attending the Sheriff’s Academy and possesses qualities which reflect the professionalism and character that Dan Feather demonstrated during his service as
Abigail and Owen Carlberg were recognized for their 4-H achievements at 4-H Awards Night.
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County’s 4-H Youth Development Program celebrated a unique 4-H year at its annual Awards Night held recently at the Falcon’s Nest in Falconer.
Despite the challenges 4-H youth and volunteers faced by the coronavirus pandemic, Chautauqua County 4-H youth were still able to complete projects like community service and many animal projects. Youth were recognized for their efforts at the annual Awards Night Ceremony.
Awards Night usually takes place in November and is planned by the Teen Ambassador youth leadership group. Families bring a dish to share, enjoy games, and celebrate the 4-H year with their fellow 4-Hers. This year’s event was a “walk through” style, modified to accommodate social distancing best practices.
