ROCK SPRINGS Today was a day to remember at the Rock Springs Animal Control shelter, as the gas chamber, once used to euthanize animals was removed for good.
In the past, the gas chamber was a tool to assist Animal Control Officers with euthanizing animals, however, with changing times Rock Springs Animal Control has found more humane ways to tackle animal population problems and can do so without the use of carbon monoxide.
Since 2019, Animal Control employees Sarah Nichols, Carly Eversole-Norris, Karalee Wells, and Christina Dyches have made it their mission to remove the gas chamber permanently from the facility. Mayor Tim Kaumo was essential in directing and authorizing the removal of the gas chamber by the end of 2020.
Billy Joe Nichols, 68, of Powder Springs, GA passed from this life to his eternal home Sunday, December 13, 2020. He suffered a stroke two years ago and since has bravely battled prostate and spinal cancer. He would have been 69 on Christmas Day. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph A. and Sarah Nichols as well as brothers, Ronald and Donald Nichols. CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A Dorchester County long-term care facility for people with disabilities failed to follow infection control procedures amid an ongoing COVID outbreak among residents and workers, according to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.
SCDHEC conducted an investigation at the Coastal Center earlier this week and cited the facility for not adhering to guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
