A motorcyclist was granted bail in the George Magistrate s Court on Tuesday after being charged with attempted murder for allegedly running over a provincial traffic law enforcement officer.
Bail was set at R300 for David Jacobs, with his case postponed to 24 March for further investigation, confirmed Western Cape National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila.
Jandré Bakker, spokesperson for the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works, on Saturday said the officer was run over after three motorcyclists were stopped for allegedly overtaking on a solid barrier line and on a painted island.
He was reportedly drenched in sweat and his face was covered with scratches and dust.

In October 2019, Heidi Scheepers car went off the cliff and into the sea. She had her six-year-old daughter, Cozette, and two-year-old son, Hugo, in the car. Only the bodies of Heidi and Hugo were retrieved after a massive search.
In December 2019, 52-year-old Zonita Basson died when her car went off the road and crashed into the sea.
In January 2020, a man died when his car left the road and crashed into the sea.
At the time, Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works spokesperson Jandre Bakker said the road along the picturesque area was managed by the department, but it ran through private property.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Christopher Spies said the preliminary investigation indicates that the woman knocked on a door at a house after being assaulted.

Three suspects arrested for the illegal possession of perlemoen near Knysna are expected to appear in court on Monday.
According to police spokesperson Sergeant Christopher Spies, members of the Knysna Crime Prevention Unit received information on Friday about a Ford Focus travelling from Cape Town transporting perlemoen.
The car was spotted near the Kwanokuthula turn-off, but sped off when the occupants saw the police vehicle.
After a high-speed pursuit, the officers managed to stop the vehicle just outside Knysna.
