A MAN convicted of what a judge said was an outrageous assault walked free from court on Wednesday after lodging an appeal against a 10-month sentence.
Tullamore District Court heard Michael Lynch, Bells Well, Daingean, knocked out two of his victim s teeth and fractured his face in an early morning attack fuelled by alcohol and cocaine.
Mr Lynch, a 33-year-old father of three, pleaded guilty to assaulting Leon Delaney, causing him harm, at Bells Well on November 24, 2019.
Sergeant James O Sullivan said when gardai came on the scene at 4.30am they saw that Leon Delaney was being attended to by paramedics and was missing two teeth.

A MAN who owes compensation for assault and criminal damage was himself attacked and robbed when he was on his way to buy an engagement ring, Tullamore District Court was told.
Judge Catherine Staines imposed a 10-month suspended sentence on Aaron Holt, aged 22, from 24 Killane Drive, Edenderry after telling him he must get his priorities right.
Donal Farrelly, defending solicitor, told the court Mr Holt had received 111 staples in his head as a result of the assault.
Mr Holt told Judge Staines he had lost the money he intended to use to buy the engagement ring when he was robbed in the same incident.

A stabbing allegation will be dealt with in the District Court because the accused was aged 17 at the time of the incident, Judge Catherine Staines was told.
Tullamore District Court heard that Ceilim Ryan, with an address at 25 Scurragh, Birr, is accused of producing a large silver kitchen knife and stabbing Jamie Murdock at 29 Presentation Place, Birr on August 7, 2019.
Sergeant James O Sullivan said that though Mr Ryan is now 18, the DPP had directed the assault charge be dealt with summarily because of his young age at the time the alleged offence occurred.
Suspended sentences for sisters whole stole items from discount store in Tullamore

Two women pleaded guilty to stealing from a discount store in Tullamore during last week s local court sitting.
The two sisters were charged with stealing items from Dealz, Cloncollig on two separate occasions in November 2019. The cost of the items was €200.
The defendants were Emily Devlin, 1 Kyran Street, Tullamore, and Roseanne Devlin, 17 Meadowlands, Kilcormac.
Sergeant James O Sullivan told the court Emily had 16 previous convictions, including convictions for theft, and Roseanne had six previous convictions.
The defending solicitor Patrick Martin said Emily is 31 years of age and has four children. “Unfortunately, she suffers from depression and anxiety.” He said Roseanne has six children and suffers from agoraphobia.
Man smashed windows in Garda Station in absolutely senseless act

A man smashed a number of windows in an Offaly Garda Station, last week s sitting of Tullamore District Court heard.
Gary Keegan, Raheen, Clara pleaded guilty to malicious damage.
Sergeant James O Sullivan told the court that at eight in the evening of April 9 last the defendant approached the front of Clara Garda Station and smashed six panels in a number of sash windows using a bar.
The Sergeant said Mr Keegan had four previous convictions, including two convictions for road traffic offences.
The defending solicitor Donal Farrelly pointed out that his client, who is 30 years of age, was drinking heavily at the time.
