Father, 7-Year-Old Daughter Drown in Pool at Birthday Party: Sheriff’s Office
A Maryland father and his young daughter died after drowning in a swimming pool over the weekend, officials said.
The Charles County Sheriff’s Office said that a 7-year-old girl jumped in an in-ground pool in Waldorf on Saturday but didn’t know how to swim. Her father, 44, then jumped in the pool to rescue her but also was “unable to swim,” the office said.
A 17-year-old male who was at the party saw what was happening jumped in to help, but “all three victims took on too much water and drowned,” officials said.

A 17-year-old boy who tried to save them both was flown to a hospital in critical condition. Two firefighters also were hurt.
The child and her father were guests at a birthday party at a home with an uncovered pool when the child jumped into the pool before 6 p.m. Saturday, the sheriff s office said. According to family, she did not know how to swim. Her father quickly jumped in to rescue her, but he was unable to swim, the sheriff s office said.
The 17-year-old boy then jumped into the pool to try to rescue them both. All three victims took on too much water, the statement said.

A 7-year-old girl and her father are dead while three others were injured Saturday after a drowning incident at a pool party in Charles County, Maryland, police said.
Authorities were responding to a call just before 6 p.m. at a residence in the 1200 block of Jefferson Lane in Waldorf when they spotted and attempted to rescue three drowning victims at the bottom of a pool, the Charles County Sheriff s Office said in a statement.
The child and her father were guests at a birthday party at a home with an “uncovered in-ground pool” when the child “fell into the pool and began struggling” before 6 p.m. Saturday, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
The girl’s father jumped into the pool to try to save her but could not.
The 17-year-old boy then jumped into the pool to try to rescue them both.
“All three victims took on a lot of water and were not able to get out of the water,” the sheriff’s office said.
Fire and EMS responders arrived and jumped into the pool to rescue all three victims. Police arrived, and first responders then performed CPR on all three people.
