A Charles City teacher has been nominated for national recognition.
Ann Prichard of Charles City Middle School is the only teacher in Iowa to become a finalist in the junior division for the Patricia Behring Teacher of the Year award of the National History Day (NHD) National Contest in Iowa. Leigh Ann Schroeder of Rivermont Collegiate in Bettendorf has been nominated in the senior division. The award recognizes the pivotal role teachers play in the lives of students.
The nominations were revealed in a letter to Iowa Senator Joni Ernst stating, “Prichard and Schroeder have demonstrated commitment to engaging their students in historical learning through innovative uses of primary sources, implementation of active learning strategies to foster historical thinking skills, and participation in National History Day. Prichard and Schroeder are leading examples for their peers and an invaluable resource for their students.”
Charles City, IA – Dana Sullivan accepts a new position as she becomes Charles City’s new Middle School Associate Principal. Sullivan was approved at the March 8 Charles City Board of Education meeting. Sullivan is the top pick out of 35 applicants. She will be working alongside the Charles City Middle School principal Joe Taylor.
Sullivan joined the Charles City Community School family in 2014 as a 7th-grade math teacher. She later became a high school math teacher and now is working in the business department. She will begin her new role on July 1, 2021.
Sullivan was raised in a farming family in Fairbank, Iowa. Her dad continues to operate the family farm and her mom now works at Dunlap Motors in Independence. Sullivan attended Wapsie Valley Community Schools District in Fairbank. After high school, Sullivan attended the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) while earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She received her teaching license through Buena Vista University and is

CHARLES CITY, Iowa – Thomas Harskamp has been named the new Executive Director of Student Engagement and Leadership for Charles City Community Schools.
The job replaces the position of activity director for the school district and Harskamp’s appointment is pending school board approval. I m nervously excited about the challenge ahead, says Harskamp. We have great members of the Charles City Community Schools family who do a lot of outstanding things for students. We want to unify our mission and vision of the school in our activities, and our motto moving forward will be to build better people, and there are many ways we can do this.
Thomas Harkamp, current co-principal at the Charles City Middle School, will take on the position of Executive Director of Student Engagement and Leadership.
