NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The 41st Charleston Boat Show kicks off on Friday at noon at the Charleston Area Convention Center.
The three-day event will not have the normal interactive features, like fishing seminars, or as many attractions for kids like bouncy houses outside., according to JBM Associates, the event’s organizer.
JBM Associates President Jacqui McGuinness says the pandemic forced those changes. This year’s show, she says, is designed to be more of a retail shopping venue, but says there will be food trucks and live music outside.

Charleston Boat Show organizers said they’ve made modifications in observance of Covid-19 guidelines to allow in-person attendance. This year’s show runs Jan. 29-31 at the Charleston Area Convention Center.
The show is for retail sales only, with no special events, such as fishing seminars. Outdoor exhibition space will be expanded, and indoor attendance is limited to 50 percent of capacity. Attendees must prepurchase tickets online.
“We are not only adhering to all city and state guidelines, but taking additional measures to keep the public safe,” Jacqui McGuinness, president of JBM & Associates, which produces the show on behalf of the Tri-County Marine Trade Association,
NORTH CHARLESTONÂ â A mixed-use development planned near the Tanger Outlets received approval earlier this year to fill in nearly 30 acres of wetlands.
Now that the project, known as Uptown, has won its wetlands permit from the Army Corps of Engineers, the city of North Charleston will look to create a special financing district to help fund the project that could further make the community around International Boulevard a vibrant corridor for living and shopping.
Plans for the Uptown tract, which stretches along International Boulevard, include residential, commercial and office space near the outlets, and possibly a pedestrian bridge over the boulevard.
