Jing Fong plans to reopen at a new location in Chinatown this July
It’s official: Chinatown’s largest restaurant is staying in Chinatown. Jing Fong, which previously announced it would be reopening at a new location this summer, has confirmed that it’s staying in the neighborhood, though its address is still unknown. The new restaurant is substantially smaller than its previous home on Elizabeth Street, marketing director Claudia Leo tells Eater, but owner Truman Lam is apparently working with an architect to recreate the ambiance of its sprawling dining room at the new 125-seat location. Executive chef Jin Ruan will continue on at the new restaurant, as well.

Last May, Medium Rare owner Mark Bucher spent Mother’s Day delivering over 1200 free meals from his three steak-frites restaurants to moms and grandmas who were separated from their families due to the pandemic. Recipients were greeted by restaurant employees and volunteers with platters of French toast, eggs, flowers, and personalized cards made by Montgomery County public school students.
It was the start of a big year of giving and fundraising for Bucher, who began delivering free meals to isolated seniors when Covid hit in March. His efforts for Mother’s Day snowballed Bucher raised over $38,000 and received donations of steak and sides from other restaurants like Charlie Palmer Steak. That was just the beginning of his collaborations. In August, Bucher founded Feed the Fridge, a nonprofit that’s placed 29 “community refrigerators” at r
New York’s storied Italian destination,
Wine Spectator Grand Award winner Del Posto, has permanently closed. The news was announced April 12 by the restaurant’s executive chef, Melissa Rodriguez, and general manager, Jeff Katz. The duo also revealed that they’ve teamed up with chef James Kent to purchase the space in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood from B & B Hospitality Group, with plans to fill it with three new concepts this fall.
Since debuting in 2005, Del Posto has been known as one of the top Italian restaurants in the country. Most recently helmed by wine director Evan Clagnaz, the wine program first earned a Grand Award in 2008 for numerous strengths including Italy and Champagne. Rodriguez was named executive chef in 2017, further cementing the restaurant’s reputation during her tenure.
