(WBTV) - In mid-December, North Carolina hospitals and healthcare providers received the first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. It was the first vaccine approved by the FDA, and a big push toward fighting and slowing the virus that made it to North Carolina, and the nation, nine months sooner. Currently, more than 5.2 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in North Carolina.

Poudre School District superintendent finalists outline plans

Poudre School District’s three superintendent finalists had the chance to present their entry plans and how they would approach their first 100 days in the position to the board of education and community Tuesday night.  The evening was originally outlined as public interviews of the candidates, though no candidates were asked questions on their plan. Prior to the public interviews, the board had an executive session regarding confidential superintendent candidate interviews, according to a board agenda.  Here s a recap of what each candidate discussed and prioritized in their entry plans.  Jonathan Cooper: a focus on communication Jonathan Cooper, superintendent of Mason City Schools in Ohio, said that while several district openings nationwide are interesting, he is only looking at Poudre because he believes it s the right fit of personal and professional values.

(WBTV) - COVID-19 vaccine eligibility will open to all North Carolina residents age 16 and older on Wednesday, April 7. Gov. Roy Cooper moved up the timeline to vaccinate Group 5 ahead of schedule as more vaccine supply became available. “Tomorrow, Group 5 becomes eligible for vaccine. This is great news,” Cooper said during a Tuesday afternoon press conference. “This will help us turn the corner on the pandemic even sooner.”

Poudre School District superintendent search: Community interviews

Poudre School District s three superintendent finalists spent another night fielding questions, this time from the community regarding equity and diversity, school choice and how they would improve the district s relationship with community partners.  More than 60 PSD parents and Fort Collins community members tuned in Friday evening to learn more about the finalists – Jonathan Cooper, Brian Kingsley and Heather Sanchez – and their stances on hot topics in the district. Each candidate received about an hour of screen time to field questions and introduce themselves to the community. Cooper is superintendent of Mason City Schools in Warren County, Ohio. Sanchez is executive director of schools for the Bellevue School District in Bellevue, Washington. Kingsley is chief academic officer of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in Charlotte, North Carolina.
