Police Operation In North Carolina Recovers More Than 150 Missing Children, Some Involved In Human Trafficking

Font Size: Police in North Carolina say they recovered more than 150 missing children, some of which became involved in narcotics and human trafficking, according to a press release by the City of Charlotte.  The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department announced Wednesday that “Operation Carolina Homecoming” had led to the recovery of 27 missing children between April 26 and May 7, according to a statement by the city government. Most of the children had been missing for more than six  months, according to police.  Operation Carolina Homecoming led to CMPD identifying and locating over 130 juveniles. Most of them had been missing for more than six months. This operation took place from April 26 to May 7.

Bridges express serious concern that police officers can obtain Ring videos from members of the public without a warrant. She continues that it is a deliberate violation of the Fourth Amendment - the right not to be searched or have items seized without a legal warrant.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has located more than 150 missing teens and children in a special operation with the U.S. Marshals Service and other community organizations. The investigation dubbed Operation Carolina Homecoming focused on finding children who had been missing for a prolonged period of time and who had remained unaccounted for despite previous attempts to locate them. CMPD Capt. Joel McNelly told reporters Wednesday that investigators spent months identifying and locating the youth the majority of whom had been missing for more than six months. Some had been missing for more than a year, McNelly said.
