A Mount Holly Police officer killed in the line of duty was honored Friday afternoon with a full police escort.
Dozens of police cruisers from Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, with lights and sirens flashing, accompanied the body of Officer Tyler Avery Herndon on Interstate 85 between Charlotte and Cleveland County. Police officers from Mount Holly, Gastonia and Gaston County Police Departments waited with firefighters from the city of Gastonia along interstate overpasses to pay their respects and join the procession.
Herndon, 25, was one of two Mount Holly Police officers, as well as a Gaston County Police officer, to respond to a breaking and entering at Mount Holly Car Wash and Arcade around 3:30 a.m. Friday.

Police with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department were looking for 32-year-old Joreka Izquierdo and the five children. All have been found “in good health” in Florida. CMPD is looking for 32-year-old Joreka Izquierdo and her five children who were reported missing Friday night. (Source: cmpd)

CHARLOTTE, N.C. A man was killed after his car ran off the road a struck a tree on Sunday, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department reports.
According to police, the crash happened in the 8800 block of Brief Road.
Police said their officers responded to a single-vehicle crash where an SUV had run off the road and struck a tree.
Upon arrival, officers located a 2000 Toyota 4Runner off the roadway, and the unresponsive driver still in the vehicle. The driver, identified as 18-year-old Jabe Isaac Wilhoit was transported to Atrium Health – CMC Main with serious injuries. There were no other occupants in the SUV.
