Families Helping Families is a new community fund working to overcome obstacles to learning in Albemarle County Public Schools during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
FHF serves students and educators by providing grants directly to Albemarle County public schools.
FHF will also work to help connect families with existing resources in the community.

We know that extra resources allow expanded learning opportunities that occur inside and outside the classrooms. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The coronavirus pandemic has forced many people to make the tough decision between buying food and paying for necessary prescription drugs, but a group in Charlottesville is making sure folks in need donât have to choose.
âWe wanted people to be able to get that medication and not feel like they had to decide whether they were going to buy food or pay their rent in order to do that,â initiative organizer Kathryn Laughon said.

Charlottesville Tomorrow, in partnership with Vinegar Hill Magazine and In My Humble Opinion talk show, has received $150,000 through the Google GNI Innovation Challenge to augment the launch of the recently established Charlottesville Inclusive Media project (CIM). The CIM partnership is one of 33 media projects to receive the GNI funding out of a pool of 215 applicants.
“The funding is an innovation challenge and we are excited that Google’s team recognized the potential of a collaboration between nonprofit public service journalism and independent for profit Black media companies to change the way African American audiences and communities are represented in local media,” said Charlottesville Tomorrow News Editor Elliott Robinson.
