CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The start of a full renovation to one of Charlottesville’s public housing developments is just a few weeks away.
All 105 units at Crescent Halls will be fully renovated and nearly everything will be updated - from kitchens to accessibility to heating and cooling systems. But what will life during construction be like for those living there? Some answers were provided at Thursday night’s Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority meeting.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority (CRHA) hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on Sunday afternoon for the South First Street redevelopment project.
Charlottesville Mayor Nikuyah Walker, Delegate Sally Hudson and members of CRHA were there to ring in the first phase of this development.
“We understand, that not just some people, but all people, deserve to have homes that they can feel and receive love in. That’s what we are intending to do with this redevelopment,” Mayor Walker said at the ceremony.

The City of Charlottesville, in collaboration with Cultivate Charlottesville-Food Justice Network, has launched a 24/7 Food Security Text Line in English and Spanish to provide direct food resource information to residents of the city and surrounding counties.
In March 2020, the Food Justice Network mobilized to provide communication tools and food access resources to address operational and programmatic changes due to the pandemic shutdown and shelter in place orders.
