If you own a car and have insurance, then the problems caused by uninsured drivers – in the form of accidents they can’t pay for – are being passed to you, says Christelle Colman, spokesperson for Old Mutual Insure, who adds that accidents with uninsured drivers add to the financial burden of those who are responsible and do pay for car insurance.
According to a recent study, with South African roads being among the most dangerous globally, the likelihood of an accident occurring that you will have to fork out for as an insured driver is extremely high.
Court orders investigation into lawyers embroiled in RAF payment debacle

THREE lawyers who apparently played along with the Road Accident Fund’s (RAF) cost-cutting, yet unlawful strategy of settling litigation and finalising payments outside of court, have landed in hot water.
In a scathing judgment in the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria, Judge Denise Fisher has ordered that the Legal Practice Council (LPC) should investigate the conduct of attorney Sonya Meistre, as well as advocates Jonatan Bouwer and Leizle Swart.
Furthermore, Judge Fisher ruled that the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) should be supplied with a copy of her judgment.

Providing cheaper fuels to South African citizens will not happen with the flick of switch but will require a multi-faceted, multi-departmental approach with the involvement of the private sector, says the Automobile Association (AA).
Presenting to parliament on Wednesday (14 April), the association said that long-term analysis of the components of the fuel price needs to be done as a matter of urgency,
This should include all calculations relating to the fuel price being audited to determine if they are still relevant and appropriate to South African conditions, said Willem Groenewald, chief executive of the AA.

JOHANNESBURG - The Road Accident Fund (RAF) has assured claimants they will receive their money.
Last week, the court gave the RAF a reprieve, saying it may pay claims within five months but it was instructed to settle claims already granted that are older than 180 days.
CEO Collins Letsoalo says with the new model people won t be paid in lump sums. We have been inundated for decades our assets have been attached. In recent years, people would as they get desperate, jump queue. When you get a court order payment must be done in 14 days, but RAF doesn t have the money to be able to do that cause we have, what is called requested but not paid , he said.
