ITP road safety campaign February 24, 2021 Islamabad: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has launched ‘Road Safety Campaign’ in order to ensure traffic discipline in the city and overcome accidents through creating awareness about traffic rules among road users. The campaign was formally inaugurated by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Qazi Jamil Ur Rehman and DIG (Security) Waqar Ud Din Syed. A ceremony was organized at F-8 Exchange chowk which was attended by SSP (ITP) Farrukh Rasheed, other officers and a large number of citizens. SSP Traffic Farrukh Rasheed while briefing to the IGP told that ITP Education Team, ITP’s Float, Capital Highway Inspection Patrolling Squads (CHIPS), Quick Response Team, staff of ITP FM Radio 92.4 and other operation staff would participate in this campaign.

In a statement, the GNR said that during operations in various parts of the country, 25,404 vehicles were inspected, and a total of 5,371 offences were recorded, 341 of which related to the use of mobile phones while driving. During the campaign period, according to the GNR, a total of 1,469 accidents were recorded, resulting in three fatalities, 18 serious injuries and 406 light injuries.

In a statement, GNR and PSP said the campaign, part of the National Control Plan for 2020, will take place until 14 December and aims to alert drivers to the negative and even fatal consequences of using their mobile phones while driving. During the campaign, ANSR s awareness raising actions and inspection operations will be carried out by the GNR and PSP, with a special focus on roads and access roads with high traffic flow.
