$100 million to bolster road safety in South Australia
Fifteen new road safety projects are about to start rolling out across South Australia as part of the first tranche of a road safety package worth more than $100 million, designed to reduce road trauma and save lives.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said tranche one works would start imminently and be completed by June to improve safety and support jobs as soon as possible.
“This funding is part of our national $2 billion Road Safety Program and will deliver much-needed lifesaving upgrades including shoulder sealing, rumble strips, works to prevent head-on collisions and barriers to prevent run-off-road crashes,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
Date Time
$10 million available to drive road safety innovation
Funding is now available to support a safer road system and drive down road trauma, with applications open under Round 2 of the $12 million Road Safety Innovation Fund.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the program will provide grants to fund innovative research and technology development, supporting the Australian Government’s road safety agenda.
“Improving safety on our roads is critically important – even one death or serious injury on our roads is one too many, and last year 1,106 Australians lost their life to road crashes,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
Date Time
$6 million in road safety funding flows across Canberra
New road safety upgrades and improvements will be delivered in Canberra thanks to funding from the Australian and Australian Capital Territory Governments.
ACT Minister for Transport and City Services Chris Steel said the ACT Government would join with the Commonwealth to invest in improved safety on the Territory’s road network, supporting the local economy and creating jobs.
“With this funding, the ACT Government will invest in road safety projects to benefit all road users,” Minister Steel said.
“The CCTV cameras will provide more real time coverage across our road network. They will be installed at key locations, including busy intersections, across the ACT.”
