Car dealers to sue DVLA over delays in issuance of DV plates

Graphic Online BY: Zadok Kwame Gyesi 705 The Vehicle and Assets Dealers Union of Ghana (VADUG) says it has given the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) up to Wednesday, January 13, 2021, to issue new Defective Vehicle (DV) number plates for 2021 to car dealers or risk lawsuits. The DV plate is normally given to owners of new and unregistered vehicles and are not meant for permanent use. According to VADUG, the delays in the issuance of the new DV plates for 2021 is causing so much harm to players in the car business in the country. Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Saturday, January 9, 2021, the Chairman of VADUG Bernard Ntrakwah said many car dealers are unable to move their cars outside their garages to meet prospective buyers at long distances because of the lack of insurance for the cars, occasioned also by the absence of 2021 DV plates.
