Graphic Online BY: Timothy Ngnenbe 30.5k Shares 705 Statistics on road crashes from the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) show that 2,589 persons were killed in 14,886 reported cases of road accidents in 2020. The 2020 figure is a 13.4 per cent increase over the 2019 figure of 2,284 persons perishing in 13,877 reported cases of road accidents. Additionally, 15,517 persons sustained various degrees of injury from crashes  involving 25,152 vehicles in 2020, compared with 13,677 injuries in 22,789 vehicular crashes in 2019, indicating 13.4 per cent increase in casualties. However, the number of pedestrian knock-downs decreased from 2,983 in 2019 to 2,728 in 2020, indicating an improvement of 8.7 per cent. A close look at the statistics shows that 10,112 private vehicles were involved in the crashes, accounting for 40.2 per cent of the total reported cases.
