Zamfara drivers on strike over highway kidnapping, robberies

The chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Dansadau, Isihu Ticha told Daily Trust that the strike was to draw the attention of authorities to their plight. Three drivers have been and four kidnapped along the highway recently, and bandits seized a total 16 motorbikes within a week. “Kidnappings and armed robberies are happening almost on daily basis. Last Friday, the driver of a vehicle  conveying bride and other wedding guests was shot dead, the bride and guests were abducted near Mashayar Zaki, a very dangerous spot along the road just 15 km north of Dansadau town. The vehicle somersaulted and this did not stop them from seizing the people onboard,” said Ticha.

Fayose stressed that Makinde looks quiet but was very deadly. He was reacting to a video where the Oyo State Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Alhaji Lamidi Mukaila aka Auxiliary threatened to kill him. The incident happened during the just concluded zonal Congress of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Osogbo, the Osun State capital. In the video, ‘Auxiliary’ could be heard saying “We are waiting for Fayose here, Ogun will kill you.” However, Fayose linked Auxillary and his boys to Makinde because they allegedly accompanied the governor to the venue of the congress. Appearing on Politics Today on Channels Television, the former Ekiti State governor lamented that such a situation was bad for the PDP.
