The Limpopo provincial government has raised serious concerns about the reckless and negligent driving which has led to more than 60 deaths in road accidents since the festive season started.
Matome Moremi, transport spokesperson, said the wet weather in many parts of the province was another concern, especially on major routes such as the N1 and the R71 from Polokwane to Phalaborwa via Tzaneen.
He said most of the accidents were head-on collisions and discouraged motorists from speeding. “We have had rain in the province, especially on Friday and it continued today [Saturday] leaving many roads wet. The N1 and R71 alone accounts for six deaths in the past two days,” Moremi said.
