Businesses and entrepreneurs across the Algoma District will have access to new services and new grant-making programs.
The Algoma Community Foundation board of directors has hired non-profit professional Robin Sutherland of Thessalon as their Founding Executive Director.
Co-Chair Jessica Bolduc says Sutherland’s leadership abilities have been proven through her 12-year career that has seen her with local, regional, and national organizations in a variety of sectors.
The Foundation is a new non-profit organization serving the urban, rural, remote, and First Nation communities of Algoma District and is currently working toward obtaining its charitable registration status.
It is also a part of a national network of Community Foundations, registered public charities that contribute to local initiatives by bringing community stakeholders together around issues of local importance, grant-making, information gathering, and sharing.

A Sault Ste. Marie native won $250,372.50 playing Sault Area Hospital Foundation’s online 50/50 draw.
Bonnie Hore’s winning number was O-6635877. The draw was last Friday.

Hore, who has lived in Gore Bay for more than 40 years, plans to use her winnings to visit the Yukon.
She also plans to share winnings with people and groups “that mean the most” to her and her family, a release says.
The jackpot was the fifth consecutive prize to top $200,000.
Andrew West (O-4636902), Nicholas Dontigny (O-1932780), Michel Morin (O-5792716) and Stanley Solomon – Group of 22 (O-6749166) were early bird winners.

It s a relatively new undertaking for the hospitals, but in the past year, they ve raised millions of dollars for health equipment in the north.
The Sault Area Hospital launched its monthly 50/50 draw just over a year ago.
