A genetic counselor might sound like a profession from the distant future, but for 33-year-old Jaellah Thalberg, it’s her full-time job in the now.

The newborn is Clark County’s first baby born in 2021 at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center on Friday morning, 10 days early of his due date. The Vancouver couple welcomed their child 6 pounds, 8 ounces and 20 inches long just hours after a challenging and historic 2020 came to a close.

Between COVID-19 vaccinations and hospitalizations, Clark County is seeing some encouraging signs to end a bleak year.
During a Wednesday press briefing, PeaceHealth Southwest Chief Medical Officer Dr. Lawrence Neville said that in the first four days of the hospital’s COVID-19 vaccination clinics, which began last week, the hospital was able to vaccinate more than 1,600 staff with the first of two doses.
