Nutana Collegiate moving to online learning after multiple COVID-19 cases

Nutana Collegiate in Saskatoon is moving to online learning, effective Friday. The Saskatoon Public School Division made the move after consulting with the SHA. According to a news release, since Sunday, three people at the school have tested positive for COVID-19; two of whom also tested positive for variants of concern. Spokesperson for the school division Veronica Baker says four classes are now in isolation and all parents and affected students have been notified. Baker says since the start of the school year, there have been 302 positive cases of COVID-19 at 56 locations in the division – 55 schools and the board office.

(Florence Hwang/CBC ) A Saskatoon educator has surrendered his teaching certificate for 10 years after having an inappropriate relationship with a student while teaching for the Saskatoon Public School Division, according to a complaint resolution agreement from Saskatchewan s teaching regulator. Matthew Tumbach taught at Tommy Douglas Collegiate between January 2011 and August 2017, and became engaged in a relationship with a student at the school that was initially non-sexual. But he did have a sexual encounter with the student after the student had graduated, according to a December 2020 consensual complaint resolution agreement with the Saskatchewan Professional Teachers Regulatory Board.
