SASKATOON Two new COVID-19 outbreaks have been declared within Saskatoon Public Schools. École Dundonald School has two active cases of COVID-19, which have been identified as variants of concern. W.P. Bate School has one active case, which is a variant of concern. “Communication about the outbreak declarations has been shared with students, staff, and the school community at each school. Classes will continue as scheduled on Thursday,” the division said in a news release. Since the start of the school year, SPS has had 351 positive cases at 58 locations in the division – 57 schools and the board office. RELATED IMAGES

Catholic And Public Schools in Saskatoon and Area Again Hosting Virtual Grads

Ferguson May 12, 2021 | 12:36 PM There will be no large outdoor venues like Griffiths Stadium for graduation ceremonies from Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools or Saskatoon Public Schools. A spokesperson for Saskatoon Public Schools says these types of ceremonies take months to plan and cannot be thrown together quickly or easily, so their collegiates will have virtual graduation ceremonies. Each school will plan its own events, such as photo opportunities or diploma presentations that follow the provincial gathering restrictions. Officials at Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools say a large outdoor venue was considered, but it was decided to do the same as last year and host virtual ceremonies. The school division cites too many unknowns to plan a graduation in a stadium type venue, including the unpredictability of the weather. Prince Albert Daily Herald Westview Community School/Facebook Westview Community School in Prince Albert been selected as one of  10 Saskatchewan schools that will each receive a $10,000 grant to support student nutrition after being selected to win this year’s Mosaic School Nutrition Challenge According to Principal Cheryl Arcand, the school applied to enhance some of the programming that is already in place including being a Breakfast Club of Canada school. “We are so fortunate that we are able to serve breakfast for our students every day and that helps them to get their day started in a great way and then this additional grant dollars will just enhance what we currently have and so much. It will be an amazing opportunity, it’s exciting actually,” Arcand said.
