The protest centers on Carlos Zapata, a right-leaning business owner known for opposition to COVID restrictions and efforts to recall three Shasta County supervisors.
On June 28, the Shasta County District Attorney s Office charged Zapata with misdemeanor battery and disturbing the peace by fighting in connection to a May 4 incident at a downtown Redding restaurant.
The protest is scheduled for 5 p.m. outside the Shasta County courthouse, according to a Facebook post from Red White and Blueprint, a pro-recall group.
