Christina Witters of Webster is getting an early start on pursuing a career in geriatric medicine by working as a nursing aide while progressing through the Early Acceptance program that the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) offers in conjunction with the State University at Fredonia. For the last two years, Witters has been a nursing aide at St. Ann’s Care Center, a skilled nursing facility in Webster, where she assists residents with activities of daily living, such as bathing, serving meals and household chores. Witters’ interest in geriatric medicine began in high school when she was a server at an independent living facility.

Grayson College gets certified nurse aide test center Grayson College Grayson College’s Center for Workplace Learning is now an in-facility test center for the Nurse Aide Competency Exam administered by Prometric. In-facility test center approval from Prometric means that Grayson College’s Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) students can receive training and test for certification in the same location on Grayon’s main campus in Denison. “Grayson College has again met a need in service to its students and the Texoma community,” Workforce Solutions Executive Director Janie Bates said. “When the administration of CNA certification exams changed to Prometric in September 2020, the number of testing centers fell dramatically,” Director of Continuing Education at Grayson College Kate Corder explained. “Students were successfully completing our training program and employers wanted to hire them, but there was very limited availability at testing centers to get our students certif

Jan 19, 2021 Doris E. Ashing, 83, of Gilman, passed away peacefully early in the morning of Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook under the care of Hospice Compassus. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to both Westbrook Acres and Hospice Compassus for the excellent service and compassionate care of Doris in her final months. Per the wishes of Doris and her family, cremation rites have been accorded and a private burial will take place at Dobson Cemetery. A public memorial service will be held Friday, January 22 at 3:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown with Pastor Terry Collins officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior beginning at 2:00 P.M. For those unable to attend, the service will be available to view on the Mitchell Family Funeral Home Facebook page.
