Naomi E. Drucker, Lilit B. Sarkissian
LOS ANGELES– Midwives, nurses and birth professionals from across California joined a Zoom celebration on Wednesday December 16 to congratulate Lilit B. Sarkissian, CNM, MSN, RNC-OB and Naomi E. Drucker, CNM, MSN, RNC on the “birth” of Los Angeles’ newest midwifery practice, Los Angeles Midwives, A Professional Nursing Corporation. With delivering privileges at a leading Westside hospital, Los Angeles Midwives provides home or hospital birth options to women in Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Midwives’ co-founders are Certified Nurse-Midwives whose primary offering is birth services (delivery, prenatal and postpartum care) to expectant mothers, and Well-Woman Care to women ranging from 12 to 80 years old. The event was a chance to learn more about the founders, the type of care they provide, the future of birth in a post-COVID Los Angeles, and how midwives can help improve women’s health in California.
Following the birth of her second child, Darlene Behrman found herself struggling with what is commonly known as the postpartum blues. âAfter I had my baby, I just felt overwhelmed,â she says. âI felt like I had no control over my emotions, and it was starting to affect my family. I knew I needed to get some help.â
Darlene found the help she was looking for in Leslie Gibson, a Certified Nurse Midwife at St. Maryâs OB/GYN clinic. âI needed someone who was confident and knowledgeable, but easy to talk to,â says Darlene. âI made that connection with Leslie. She made me feel at ease and comfortable in speaking out about what I was experiencing. I didnât feel embarrassed or ashamed.â
