Mr. King’s Essential’s of Healthcare class visits BRES for Basic Healthcare LessonsRebel s Corner December 17, 2020 , by Staff Admin Students in Mr. King’s Essential’s of Healthcare class at FCHS had to choose their end of the semester comprehensive assignment. These students chose to present a “Basic Healthcare” lesson to our 5 th grade students at Blue Ridge Elementary. They are hoping to present to East and West Fannin next week. The lesson included how students could recognize an emergency and how to contact 911. It also include having student make a cheat sheet with their home address and important information they may need to know during an emergency. The lesson also taught student how to recognize signs of stroke and heart attack as well as what to do if someone passes out, has a neck injury, or is in a fire situation. The FCHS student also taught and demonstrated how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and how to do “Hands-Only” CPR.

New HVAC, Nursing Career Courses Available at ECC

12/16/2020 5:35:21 AM By John Covington There are two career courses available to students who enroll in East Central College’s Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) Program. The Fast-Track classes begin in January 2021, so students must enroll quickly to complete the required AEL orientation prior to classes beginning. Local job centers will provide financial assistance for eligible students.   According to Alice Whalen, AEL director, Certified Nursing Assistant and Intro to HVAC courses are available at the Union ECC campus. “Students need to register now to begin these classes on time,” Whalen said. “The two-part orientation includes a meeting via Zoom followed by a day in person, masks required. Both steps must be completed.”

Not everything can be taught first-hand and that can be particularly challenging given the limitations of classroom spaces and schedules. But, Joanne McMahon has come up with a simple virtual solution for her students at the Region 10 Technical High School to learn one of the skills they need to earn their Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) degree. Students training for a CNA degree have to learn how to support the medical staff that they work with by doing a variety of tasks. One of the most basic services a CNA can provide is to take measurements of a patient’s vital signs. Sometimes this is simple, like taking someone’s temperature, but other times it is more complex.
