This fall, workers at the Remington Outdoor Company plant in Ilion, N.Y., were given notice that they would be terminated; they would not be paid severance that Remington is contractually obligated to pay. This announcement that affects 585 workers at the Ilion plant is part of the larger Chapter 11 bankruptcy of the company, impacting workers around the United States. The United Mine Workers of America has filed a claim in the bankruptcy proceedings on behalf of the terminated workers.
Severance pay benefits at this plant were gained through a collective bargaining agreement between the Remington Outdoor company and the employees represented by the UMWA, Local 717. The total value of the severance that is owed to the terminated workers is $514,093. The assets of Remington, including the Ilion plant, were sold at auction for approximately $160 million as part of the bankruptcy process. Social media posts shared thousands of times claim AT&T was contracted to conduct a “forensic audit” of machines from election technologies firm Dominion Voting Systems, linking this to a bombing near one of the telecommunication company’s facilities in the US city of Nashville. But AT&T and Dominion say the audit claim is false.
“AT&T got a contract to do forensic audit on Dominion voting machines and those machines were being moved to Nashville this past week,” says a December 27, 2020 Facebook post.
“The explosion ‘just happened’ to be at the AT&T location where they ‘just so happen’ to control the cooling system for the super computer and house the dominion voting machines and drives for forensic audit,” it says.
