Mets top Orioles in ninth for sixth straight win

Rookie third-string catcher Patrick Mazeika delivered his second unusual walk-off RBI of the homestand Tuesday night as the New York Mets beat the Baltimore Orioles 3-2.
Jonathan Villar beat the throw home on Mazeika s grounder to first to score the winning run and give the Mets their sixth straight win.
The Orioles have lost four of five.
Kevin Pillar almost tied the game leading off the ninth against Cesar Valdez (2-1), but his fly ball down the left-field line hooked just foul. Pillar battled Valdez for seven pitches before singling under the glove of third baseman Maikel Franco.

PITTSBURGH Troy Stokes Jr. drove in runs with each of his first two major league hits, JT Brubaker pitched six strong innings and the Pittsburgh Pirates finally beat the Cincinnati Reds, 7-2 on Tuesday night.
Two days after making his debut, Stokes hit an RBI single in the fourth inning. The right fielder also doubled in a run in the eighth.
Orioles salvage finale of four-game set vs. Red Sox

Trey Mancini hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the sixth and added an RBI single in the eighth as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the visiting Boston Red Sox 4-1 in the finale of a four-game series Monday night.
The Red Sox won the first three games of the series and had beaten the Orioles six straight times overall all in Baltimore. The Orioles swept a three-game set in Boston to open the season.
Both starters pitched well. Baltimore s Jorge Lopez gave up one run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out five without a walk and recorded his longest outing of the season.
The Orioles have been a bottom feeder since the playoff days, with former stars such as Adam Jones, came and went. Since 2018, they’ve served more as a punching bag for the dominant clubs in American League East. But things are starting to change.
The Birds still sit at the bottom of the division, but Means’ no-hitter showed the national baseball audience what has been on display for much of the year: These Orioles are no longer anyone’s easy out.
There are good pieces in place, young bats and prospects waiting in the wings, with a legit ace who just recorded the franchise’s first complete-game no-hitter since 1969.

Tyler Glasnow pitched six effective innings, leading the Tampa Bay Rays to a 7-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim, Calif.
Glasnow (4-1) allowed three runs on four hits with four walks and eight strikeouts. Three Rays relievers then shut out the Angels on two hits over the final three innings.
Willy Adames and Manuel Margot homered for the Rays while Shohei Ohtani and Anthony Rendon went deep for the Angels. Ohtani was scratched from his scheduled start on the mound after getting hit by a pitch on his right elbow Sunday.
