Chicago Public Schools students to return to in-person learning despite continued pushback from teacher s union

Some teachers at Brentano Math & Science Academy bundled up and set up tables and computers outside so they could still teach virtually. It s been a long time coming, but it s finally here. Roughly 6,000 CPS students will return to in-person learning for the first time since March. Those returning are Pre-K and special needs students whose parents were willing to send their children back into school buildings. I feel like she s regressing because she s not getting the therapies she needs, said CPS parent Ebonie Davis. Davis is the mother of identical twins Leah and Layla Scott. The girls are in the 1st grade at South Shore s Thorpe Elementary, but Layla is autistic. When offered the choice to send them back, Davis said she split her decision.

Half of All Chicago Public School Teachers Did Not Return

AP Photo/Mark Lennihan Just over half of Chicago public school teachers ordered to report on Monday to prepare for the resumption of in-person instruction failed to show up, according to school authorities. There has been no in-classroom instruction at the CPS since last March and the teachers’ union wants to keep it that way, apparently until there’s no chance of any of their members getting sick. The union is complaining about the safety of teachers after seeing the district’s plan for reopening. The Chicago Teachers’ Union, which routinely goes on strike to extort more money from the district as well as to promote their social justice agenda, is the most radical teachers’ union in America. The leadership is not much interested in educating children except as a means to propagandize and brainwash them into believing as they do.
