The new cooperative relationship is set to enhance air freight development between the two countries
Both Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) and Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN) have signed an airport cooperation agreement aimed at helping the development of air cargo traffic between the two regions.
The new collaboration is also set to strengthen knowledge sharing between both bases, whilst supporting the air cargo reach of each airport. The facilities are expected to work on modernised initiatives to develop handling systems to e-commerce cargo.
Joint ambitions for both sites consist of attracting further cargo airlines, alleviating ground challenges and move products quickly so they reach their destination.

ROCKFORD (WREX) Chicago Rockford International Airport is teaming up with another airport to improve its cargo business.
The airport signed an Airport Cooperation Agreement with Cologne Bonn Airport in Germany. As part of the agreement, both airports will look to attract more cargo airlines and get rid of challenges on the ground. The airports will help current cargo customers by looking at processes and procedures with the goal of making handling more efficient and shortening delivery times. Cologne Bonn is an airport that is very similar to the Chicago Rockford Airport, says Chicago Rockford International Airport Director of Cargo Ken Ryan. And we believe that after quite some time that we can work well with them to encouraging business.

The e-commerce juggernaut and crowded international gateways are making many secondary airports attractive alternatives for freight transport providers, but few are growing like Chicago Rockford International Airport.
Located about 70 miles northwest of Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, Rockford Airport (RFD) last year increased cargo throughput by 15% to a record 2.7 billion tons of cargo landed weight (aircraft plus payload) and recently began a $43 million infrastructure expansion to meet escalating demand for airfreight service.
